The Marta Effect

What impact has Marta had on the Pride? Our record speaks for itself. Football is a team sport and cannot be dominated by an individual player. Besides her skill, Marta provides a sense of confidence amongst her teammates which helps elevate their game. It sure would boost my energy level if I were the teammate of a 4-time FIF world player of the year!

The last 2 results:
Pride def. Boston 2-1
Pride def. Washington 4-1

World Cup 2010 is Complete...Now What?

The 2010 World Cup is finished. Congratualtions to Spain. Congratualtions to the U.S. as well - great showing lads! What have I taken away from this past month of football in South Africa?

(1) Africa is a beautiful continent filled with beautiful people.

(2) South Africa's efforts paid off - the African continent's first World Cup was wonderfully produced (as far as I could tell from my television of course!)

(3) Great coverage by ESPN; Hopefully ESPN will further develop their football coverage.

(4) Another serious look needs to be done to examine merits of technology to assist referees (without impacting the "flow" of the game)

(5) Finally - this short video kind of says it all, in terms of the next steps for football in America:

Next up: 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany. Let's hope that this event gets coverage that rivals what we just witnessed in South Africa!
